Alicante's School Bonfire Competition Sparks Creativity for 20th Year
The Festivities Department of the Alicante City Council has announced the long-awaited 20th edition of the School Bonfire Competition, an initiative that aims to promote the city's bonfire festival among the schools of the municipality. The application period will be open until Sunday, May 10, and the bonfires will be set up by the morning of Monday, June 15.

The competition will be divided into two categories, infant and juvenile, and will have a prize pool of €1,500, including the trophy for the first prize winners. Some other, notable prizes for the event include participation medals and sets of school supplies valued at approximately €250, €150, and €100.
Students will be creating their bonfires out of cardboard, wood, or paper, and the maximum height of each bonfire must be 1.50 metres. These bonfires will be critiqued by judges on factors including creativity, originality, quality of finish, artistic vision, and others, and special consideration will also be given to how involved the students were in the design process, as well as their ability to work together. These bonfires will go on to be showcased in a spectacle, for the residents of Alicante to admire.

The bonfire competition is not only a way to get the young residents of Alicante participating in long-standing traditions, it also upholds values like teamwork, creativity, listening, and problem-solving, making for a fun-filled event that families and visitors will be looking forward to for the whole month of May.
