American Literature Institute Publicly Acknowledges Recipients of OnWord 2025 Charity Awards

The American Writers Museum (AWM) in Chicago is set to host its annual OnWord benefit on September 8, 2025, at the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago. This event aims to raise funds for the museum's operations, particularly its expanding youth education programs, which have been affected by recent federal funding cuts to libraries and museums.

The OnWord 2025 event honours writers, educators, and advocates who have elevated literature, learning, and civic engagement. The honourees for this year include:

  • David Grann, journalist and bestselling author of Killers of the Flower Moon, who will receive the Founder's Inspiring Writer Award.
  • Brit Bennett, New York Times best-selling author, will present the Inspiration Award to her former teacher, Christine Esteban.
  • Scott Turrow and Jerre and Mary Joy Stead will receive the Beyond the Page Award for their commitment to advocacy, philanthropy, and leadership.

The event will feature a live interview by Peter Sagal, host of NPR's Wait, Wait... Don't Tell Me!, with David Grann. Additionally, writer Brit Bennett will join Grann and Sagal at the event.

Tickets for adults are $16, seniors, students, and teachers pay $10, and children under 12 are free. Members are admitted free of charge. For more information, visit AmericanWritersMuseum.org or call 312-374-8790.
