Aqaba Aims to Lure Russian Tourists with Visa-Free Travel and New Flights

Russian travellers may soon have a new beach destination on their radar. Aqaba, Jordan’s Red Sea resort, is set to become more accessible with planned direct flights starting in spring 2026. The move follows a new visa-free regime, making the trip quicker and cheaper for tourists from Moscow and other regions.

Aqaba is gaining attention as an alternative to Egypt’s crowded resorts. The city offers pristine white beaches, clear waters, and mountain views, along with a longer swimming season that lasts nearly ten months. Winter temperatures stay mild, averaging 20-25°C in the air and 21-23°C in the sea, while spring brings even warmer conditions—25-32°C in the air and 22-25°C in the water.

The destination also provides cultural and adventure activities. Visitors can explore a 14th-century Mamluk fortress, take desert safaris, or visit the ancient city of Petra. Diving and snorkelling are popular in the Red Sea’s rich marine environment.

Russian tour operators are pushing for direct flights to meet growing demand. Currently, no Russian airlines have confirmed routes, but industry discussions are underway. The visa-free policy allows stays of up to 30 days per trip, with a maximum of 90 days per year, and removes the previous $60 border fee. Travel agents advise booking early, as interest in Aqaba is rising fast.

If direct flights launch as planned, Aqaba could become a leading choice for Russian holidaymakers. The combination of visa-free entry, shorter travel times, and a mix of relaxation and adventure is expected to draw more visitors. Tour operators are already preparing for increased demand in the coming year.
