Austrian Spruce Arrives at Schönbrunn Palace for Christmas Market

A grand Christmas tree from Austria has arrived in Vienna, ready to grace the Schönbrunn Palace Christmas Market. The 160-year-old spruce, sourced by the Austrian Federal Forests (ÖBf), was transported from the Taxenbach forestry area in Pinzgau. Katrin Edtmeier, Imperial Markets' managing director, expressed excitement about the tree's arrival, seeing it as 'a touch of Austrian nature right into the heart of the city'.

The tree, described by Georg Schöppl, ÖBf spokesperson, as 'an especially beautiful specimen', was harvested in the Taxenbach forest district and transported to Vienna on a low-loader truck. It was erected on Wednesday in the Ehrenhof courtyard, more than two months before Christmas Eve. After the Advent season, the spruce will serve a dual purpose at Schönbrunn Zoo, providing both a toy and a treat for the animals.

The Christmas market, set to begin soon, will offer a blend of tradition, craftsmanship, and culinary delights, all centered around the towering Christmas tree. Preparations are now in their final phase, with the tree's arrival marking a significant milestone.

The traditional Christmas tree, a roughly 160-year-old spruce from the Rauris Valley in Salzburg’s Pinzgau region, has taken its place at Schönbrunn Palace. It promises to bring a touch of Austrian nature to Vienna's Christmas market, offering a delightful experience for visitors and a unique treat for the zoo's animals after the holiday season.
