Autumn Hiking Boom Strains Parking in Allgäu

Autumn brings a surge in hikers to the scenic Allgäu region, but a persistent issue plagues these popular hiking destinations: parking. The German Alpine Club Section Allgäu-Kempten (DAV Sektion Allgäu-Kempten), which maintains many of these paths, struggles to accommodate the influx of visitors during the fall season.

Despite paying a toll, hikers are not guaranteed a parking spot at the end of private alpine roads maintained by local trail associations. This is particularly true during the fall months when the region's stunning foliage draws large crowds. Visitors often find themselves circling for spots or resorting to improper parking, which can result in fines, even in camera-monitored lots.

The DAV Sektion Allgäu-Kempten, while working to expand parking facilities, urges hikers to plan ahead and consider carpooling or using public transportation to help alleviate the parking strain during the fall season.

Parking remains a challenge at Allgäu's popular hiking destinations during the fall season. While paying a toll does not guarantee a spot, hikers can help by planning their trips carefully and considering alternative transportation methods during the fall season. The DAV Sektion Allgäu-Kempten continues to work on improving parking infrastructure during the fall season.
