Avelo Airlines debuts direct Wilmington-to-Punta Cana flights for under $100
Avelo Airlines has launched its first international route, connecting Wilmington International Airport (ILM) in North Carolina directly to Punta Cana (PUJ). The new nonstop service began on December 24, 2025, marking a milestone for both the airline and the airport. Travellers can now fly twice weekly between the two destinations, with fares starting below $100 on select dates.
The route operates every Wednesday and Saturday, offering a convenient link to one of the Caribbean’s most popular holiday spots. Punta Cana is well-known for its relaxed beach getaways, with key areas including Bávaro Beach, El Cortecito, Cap Cana, and Uvero Alto. Upon arrival, passengers can enjoy amenities like a VIP lounge with an outdoor infinity pool overlooking the tarmac.
Wilmington’s airport provides a smoother experience than larger hubs, with shorter queues, less terminal congestion, and easier parking. ILM also has an international terminal and U.S. Customs and Border Protection facilities, making the process hassle-free for returning travellers. However, those heading to the Dominican Republic must pay a $10 tourist card fee and complete an electronic ticket for entry and exit. Avelo’s budget-friendly fares come with optional extras, such as seat selection, carry-on baggage, and priority boarding. American Airlines remains the only other carrier offering nonstop flights from ILM to Punta Cana, with tickets available for late 2025 and early 2026.
This new route expands travel options for North Carolina residents seeking a tropical escape. The twice-weekly service also strengthens ILM’s role as a growing regional airport. With competitive pricing and a straightforward travel experience, the connection aims to attract more visitors to Punta Cana’s beaches and resorts.
