Baden-Württemberg Boosts Ties With Switzerland in Updated Strategy
Baden-Württemberg's cabinet has approved an updated Switzerland Strategy, aiming to bolster ties between the German state and its neighbour. The move, endorsed on July 8, 2025, seeks to deepen cooperation in various fields, from economy and science to sustainability and democracy.
State Secretary Florian Haßler underscored Baden-Württemberg's role as a bridge between Switzerland and the European Union, highlighting the significance of Switzerland's participation in Horizon Europe. The updated strategy, involving Dr. Martin Neukom, Regierungspräsident of Canton Zürich, focuses on key areas such as economic, scientific, and technological cooperation, sustainable mobility, and collaboration in the hydrogen sector.
The two regions are already driving the development of a hydrogen economy along the High Rhine. The full electrification of the High Rhine Railway by 2027 is another step towards sustainable mobility in the border region. Minister President Winfried Kretschmann stressed the importance of the partnership, with innovation bolstered through close cooperation with Swiss partners in areas like Artificial Intelligence and cross-border cluster networking in industries like healthcare and aerospace.
The updated strategy aims to further strengthen and expand cross-border economic, labor, and living spaces with Switzerland. By fostering cooperation in key areas, Baden-Württemberg and Switzerland seek to create a robust, sustainable, and innovative future for their shared border region.
