Bhutan's New Digital Nomad Visa Offers Two Years in the Himalayas
Bhutan has launched a new digital nomad visa, indeed offering remote workers the chance to live in the Himalayan kingdom for up to two years. The programme, introduced in February 2026, is run in partnership with the private company NomadClub. It targets professionals seeking a quieter, nature-focused lifestyle over bustling urban hubs.
The visa allows stays of 12 months, with the option to renew for another year. Applicants must pay an annual fee of $2,800 USD, and the entire process is handled online. Unlike many similar programmes, Bhutan does not impose a minimum income requirement.
To qualify, applicants need a valid passport, proof of remote work, and agreement to financial terms. This includes opening an account with DK Bank and depositing 10,000 TER—a sovereign-backed digital token. The visa aims to attract those drawn to Bhutan's Buddhist culture, peaceful environment, and philosophy of Gross National Happiness.
Internet access is reliable in major towns such as Thimphu and Paro. Cafes, hotels, and co-working spaces increasingly offer strong Wi-Fi connections. The country appeals to digital nomads prioritising simplicity, natural beauty, and cultural immersion over fast-paced networking.
The visa provides a two-year opportunity for remote workers to experience Bhutan's unique way of life. With no income threshold but a required local bank deposit, the programme balances accessibility with financial commitment. Successful applicants will join a growing community of professionals working amid the kingdom's serene landscapes.
