Bolt South Africa Introduces Flight Tracking for Scheduled Rides

Bolt, the ride-hailing service, has rolled out a new feature aimed at enhancing the convenience of scheduled rides, particularly for travellers using major airports in the country. The flight tracking feature has seen a significant increase in usage, with a 275% rise since its introduction.

With this feature, customers can now book their rides directly on the Bolt app, inputting their flight details to synchronise their ride booking with their flight schedule. Bolt's system will monitor the flight status in real-time and adjust the pickup time accordingly, ensuring a seamless connection between the flight and the ride.

Lerato Motsoeneng, Senior General Manager at Bolt, commented, "This feature allows customers to enjoy peace of mind knowing their ride will adjust if their flight is delayed or cancelled."

The feature is available at major airports like OR Tambo (JNB), Cape Town (CPT), King Shaka (DUR), Lanseria (HLA), and Port Elizabeth (PLZ). It aims to reduce wait times by better matching riders with available drivers in the airport queue.

For corporate users, the flight tracking feature offers centralized billing and reporting, making it easier to manage employee and client travel. For Bolt Business, the feature adds value through reliable airport transport.

If a flight is delayed or cancelled, the ride will automatically adjust or be cancelled at no extra cost. This eliminates the need for manual rescheduling and potential extra charges.

Airports remain the top destination for Bolt trips in South Africa. To use the feature, tap "Schedule" on the Bolt app home screen, enter your arrival airport, destination, and tap "Add flight details". Input your airline, flight number, landing date, or departure city to complete the booking.

Bolt also plans to improve airport pick-up visibility, making it easier for travellers to locate their drivers upon arrival. This initiative is part of Bolt's ongoing commitment to providing a seamless and reliable ride-hailing service for its customers.
