Jubilee of Youth Celebration at Tor Vergata: A Global Gathering of Faith and Hope
In August 2025, the University of Rome Tor Vergata became the epicenter of a monumental Catholic event during the Jubilee Year of Hope. Over the course of two days, an estimated 1 million young people from around the world converged on this sprawling 600-hectare campus, transforming it into a bustling hub of youthful life, intellectual reflection, and the search for truth.
The festivities commenced on August 2nd, with live music and testimonies from youth across the globe, culminating in a Vigil with Pope Leo XIV. The Pope led prayers and Eucharistic adoration from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM, with the youth spending the night on the event site in sleeping bags.
The following day, August 3rd, Pope Leo XIV presided over a solemn Holy Mass, marking the conclusion of the Jubilee. The event site was accessible only by public transportation, with visitors undertaking a 5 km or more walk from nearby metro or regional train stations due to restricted private vehicle access.
Organizers prepared for the summer heat (32°C to 34°C) by providing 5 million bottles of water and numerous water stations, as well as cooling systems such as water cannons to keep participants comfortable.
