City of Peine's Senior Advisory Council Excursion
On August 22, 2025, a group of 50 senior citizens from the city of Peine embarked on a memorable trip to Aschersleben, Germany. Organised by the Senior Council, the journey was filled with historical explorations and cultural experiences.
The group's first stop was the Wilsleben village church, a structure that has undergone a significant restoration post-reunification. Today, the church serves not just as a house of worship, but as a space for everyone. The restoration work, carried out by a support association, was recognised with a monetary award by the KiBa.
After breakfast, the visitors were warmly welcomed by the Aschersleben Senior Council and Mayor Steffen Amme. A local women's association prepared a delicious breakfast for the guests, setting the tone for a day filled with hospitality.
Following breakfast, the group spent time exploring the festival grounds of the annual ASCANIA Horse Festival, a significant event in Aschersleben. The day's highlight was the concert by singer Regina Ross, who captivated the audience with her performance of local folk songs. In the festival tent, the visitors enjoyed coffee and cake, along with the concert.
After the festival, they returned to the city of Peine in the afternoon. The group did not visit any other locations in Aschersleben after the festival, making the Wilsleben church and the ASCANIA Horse Festival the main attractions of their trip.
