Dallas Welcomes Bold African Art Exhibition This November
A new art exhibition, 'Crossing Lines: Contemporary Voices from Zimbabwe & South Africa', is set to open in Dallas next month. The show, a collaboration between DVH Artworks and the Indibano Art Residency, aims to expand Dallas' global art dialogue by connecting South African and Zimbabwean artists with North Texas audiences.
The exhibition, running from Nov. 8 to Nov. 22, features work by three artists - Lloyd Maluleke, Nothando Chiwanga, and Pardon Mapondera. Each artist brings a unique perspective, exploring themes of identity, movement, and cultural boundaries.
Lloyd Maluleke, a South African visual artist, uses layered imagery in his paintings to explore everyday life and human experiences. Nothando Chiwanga, from Zimbabwe, blends photography, performance arts, and installation to explore the Black female body, travel, and belonging. Pardon Mapondera, also from Zimbabwe, transforms recycled materials into intricate textile pieces, highlighting themes of ecology and renewal.
The exhibition is a result of Bukekile Dube's efforts to create opportunities for African artists in Dallas. Dube launched the Indibano Art Residency in 2023 to foster cultural reciprocity and expand Dallas' global art dialogue. The show promises to be a vibrant addition to the city's art scene, offering a glimpse into the diverse voices of contemporary African art.
