Davao del Sur Museum launches National Arts Month with vibrant cultural showcase

The Davao del Sur Museum kicked off its National Arts Month 2026 celebration on February 16, themed Ani ng Sining: Katotohanan at Giting. The main event showcased the province's commitment to preserving heritage and fostering creativity. Governor Yvonne R. Cagas reaffirmed her administration's support for the arts during the opening ceremony.

The newly established museum now serves as a permanent venue for local history and art. Inside, visitors can explore traditional Bagobo-Tagabawa artifacts, intricate bamboo crafts, and paintings by regional artists. The space also houses the Tourism Development and Culture Promotions Office, underscoring its role in cultural preservation.

The opening ceremony featured performances by school groups and cultural troupes. Art exhibitions displayed works from the Davao del Sur Art League and other local guilds. Local artists thanked the museum for providing a platform to share their talent with a wider audience.

Organised by the provincial tourism office and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the month-long event encourages other indigenous tribes to contribute artifacts. While groups like the Bagobo-Tagabawa and Manobo may have items on display, exact figures on tribal participation remain unconfirmed as of February 2026.

The celebration aims to honour Davao del Sur's cultural roots while inspiring new artistic expressions. With a mix of performances, exhibitions, and community involvement, the museum's inaugural event sets a foundation for future cultural initiatives. The province continues to invite more tribes to share their heritage through the museum's growing collection.
