Our latest adventure takes us aboard the Airbus A321, as we journey from Singapore to Ho Chi Minh City with Vietnam Airlines' economy class. Let's dive into this exciting ride!
Getting Cozy - The Aircrafts' Lair
This aircraft, VN-A397, is a 12-year-old Airbus A321-200, part of Vietnam Airlines' fleet of 62 A321s. With a mix of A321CEOs and A321NEOs, these jets dominate the airline's domestic routes. Besides the 16 Business Class seats, the plane houses 168 economy seats arranged in a friendly 3-3 layout. And, lucky us, we got an upgrade from our initial seat 31A to a bulkhead seat at 10C!

This bustling route links travelers eager for cultural experiences in Vietnam. Operated by four carriers, Vietnam Airlines majority, with 68 weekly flights, soars on narrow-body aircraft to meet the constant demand for this excellent service.

Vietnam Airlines' economy seating offers a practical and simple experience, tailored to budget-conscious fliers. Each seat is equipped with an 81 cm (or 32 inches) seat pitch, 18-inch seat width, and a recline of 11.5 cm. The firm armrests hosting adjustable tray tables provide a surprising sensation of space. And, in our bulkhead row, the legroom stats shown below make us feel like the luckiest travelers in the world!
Good Vibes Only - Hospitality at its Finest
Our expectations for this flight were sky high after experiencing Singapore Airlines and Thai Airways earlier. Yet, Vietnam Airlines managed to impress us throughout the entire journey from boarding to deplaning. Every crew member delivered courteous and warm interactions, greeting passengers with infectious energy, making us feel right at home.
Flavorful Feast - A Taste of Vietnam
A two-hour feast welcomed us just after reaching 10,000 feet! Today's menu offered chicken with rice in sauce, a tasty side of veggies, and a bread roll. Vietnamese cuisine was the undisputed star of the culinary show on this ride, delivering a comforting, almost soulful dining experience that left us yearning for more.
Take-Off to Touchdown - Entertainment on the Fly
On this flight, we didn't find personal IFE screens in economy, but that's not a problem! By connecting to the onboard LotuStar WiFi, we discovered the same IFE system accessible on Vietnam Airlines' widebody aircraft, simply transferred to our personal devices. Bonus points for keeping up-to-date with our favorite shows while in the air!
Get Set, Go - Departure and Arrival
Disposable hand towels were provided before takeoff, adding an elegant, branded touch to the flight. The aircraft's clean, well-maintained lavatories were a perfect fit for domestic and short-haul routes.

Vietnam Airlines delivers excellent value for money on this route. Striking a balance between Singapore Airlines' luxury and VietJet Air's low prices, Vietnam Airlines offers competitive fares, included meal service, and exceptional hospitality, making it the ideal choice for budget-conscious travelers seeking a delightful flight experience on short regional routes.
