Direct flights between Cyprus and India set to commence soon

In a significant development, Cyprus and India are on the brink of establishing direct air connections, a move that is expected to boost tourism, business, and investments between the two countries.

The journey to this point began in June 2025, when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Cyprus, marking a significant event in the ongoing relationship between the two nations. During his visit, a joint declaration was signed, which specifically referenced tourism and the launch of direct flights.

Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades is currently in India, accompanied by senior officials, to finalize the details of this long-awaited direct air connection. The meetings will address all technical details and operational parameters of the direct route, paving the way for its implementation.

Currently, travelers must contend with indirect routes, with the fastest flights taking about 9 hours from New Delhi to Cyprus, often involving a layover in Dubai and an additional stop. The direct distance between Larnaca and India is approximately 4,005 kilometers.

The introduction of direct flights is expected to have a positive impact on several areas. In terms of tourism, direct flights would make travel more convenient, potentially increasing tourist arrivals from India to Cyprus and vice versa, boosting the tourism sector in both countries.

For business, easier connectivity would facilitate business travel, encouraging more direct trade interactions and collaboration between companies in India and Cyprus. Improved connectivity through direct flights tends to promote cross-border investments by enabling easier visits by investors and business delegations.

The timeline for establishing direct flights between Cyprus and India is set for the summer of 2026. This new direct air connection is expected to significantly increase tourist arrivals from India, generating substantial revenue for Cyprus. It is also anticipated to pave the way for investments and strengthen economic and business relations between the two countries.

In conclusion, while direct Cyprus-India flights are under discussion but have not yet commenced, their launch is anticipated to benefit tourism, business travel, and investment flows between the two countries once implemented. The upcoming meetings between Minister Vafeades and relevant Indian authorities, tourism officials, and India's Minister of Transport, Pankaj Kumar Singh, mark a significant step towards realizing this goal.
