Dombivli's sports and cultural hubs get a Rs 41-crore modernisation push
Dombivli is set to gain a major boost in sports and cultural facilities as Kalyan MP Shrikant Shinde leads a large-scale redevelopment project. The initiative focuses on upgrading the Sant Savalram Maharaj Sports Complex and the historic Savitribai Phule auditorium with modern infrastructure and advanced amenities. The Savitribai Phule auditorium is currently undergoing extensive modernisation. Improvements include cutting-edge technical upgrades and enhanced audience facilities. A fund of Rs 15 crore has already been approved for the theatre’s redevelopment, with an additional Rs 26 crore expected soon.
The sports complex, known locally as Krida Sankul, will also receive national and international-standard facilities. These upgrades aim to provide better training opportunities for local athletes and position Dombivli as a key hub in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Recently, Dr Shinde’s personal assistant Abhijeet Darekar, MLA Rajesh More, and other officials inspected the site. They reviewed the project’s progress, discussed the blueprint, and finalised the execution timeline for the next development phase. Residents, sportspersons, and cultural groups have welcomed the initiative. Many see it as a transformative step that will elevate the city’s profile in sports and arts.
Once completed, the revamped venues are poised to become a symbol of urban and cultural progress for Dombivli and the broader Kalyan-Dombivli region. The upgraded facilities will offer improved spaces for events, training, and performances, reinforcing the area’s role as a growing centre for sports and culture.
