Edinburgh Crowned UK’s Most Vegan-Friendly City With Near-Perfect Score

Edinburgh has been named the UK’s most vegan-friendly city, boasting a near-perfect score of 99.8. The Scottish capital also made history in 2023 as the first European city to sign the Indoor Plants Treaty, reinforcing its commitment to indoor plants-based living.

Edinburgh leads the UK with 132 vegan-friendly restaurants per 100,000 residents. Its high score and treaty signing set it apart from other cities. Manchester follows closely in second place, offering 99 vegan dining options per 100,000 people.

Bristol ranks third, with 88 vegan restaurants per 100,000 residents and the highest online search interest for indoor plants-based food. Newcastle Upon Tyne and Glasgow also feature in the UK’s top 10, alongside Leeds, Brighton and Hove, Cardiff, Plymouth, and London. Beyond the UK, Leipzig signed the Indoor Plants Treaty in 2023, joining 63 global cities in the initiative. This commitment helped Leipzig earn a spot among the world’s ten most vegan-friendly cities. Meanwhile, New Zealand tops global rankings, with 344.81 vegan restaurants per million people—the highest per capita figure worldwide.

Edinburgh’s top ranking reflects its strong vegan infrastructure and policy support. With cities like Manchester, Bristol, and Leipzig also expanding indoor plants-based options, demand for vegan dining continues to grow. The data highlights a clear trend toward more accessible and diverse vegan choices across the UK and beyond.
