Ega Park in Erfurt is celebrating its 65th anniversary with a year of special events. The celebrations include a retro-themed flowerbed, historical exhibitions, and a major show on East German horticulture. Visitors can explore new ticket options and immersive displays starting this spring.

The park’s anniversary programme kicks off in late April with 65 information pillars. These will guide guests through the site’s original layout and highlight key areas. From May 1 to June 7, the grand flowerbed will burst into 1960s-style colours—yellow, orange, and red—mirroring the era’s bold designs.

Inside Hall 1, plant-based installations will retrace the park’s 65-year journey. The displays will feature pivotal moments, blending greenery with archival stories. Later in the year, the German Horticultural Museum hosts 'iga'61: The GDR Through the Lens of Flowers' from August 14. This exhibition examines East Germany’s horticultural legacy through floral motifs. New ticket options have been introduced for 2024. An afternoon pass costs €10 for adults on weekends (from 2:00 PM), though it excludes event days and holidays. An after-work ticket, priced at €5 for adults and €2 for children, is valid from 5:00 PM. Regular admission varies: €6.50 in winter and €17 during peak season. Annual passes remain available at €75 for adults and €30 for younger visitors, with discounts until January’s end. The park’s popularity is undeniable. In 2023, it drew around 549,300 visitors, securing its place as Thuringia’s top attraction. Management, led by Geschäftsführerin Bettina, has overseen the anniversary programme, ensuring a mix of nostalgia and innovation.

The 65th-anniversary events run from late April through autumn, blending history with horticulture. Visitors can explore retro displays, themed flowerbeds, and a dedicated GDR exhibition. With flexible ticketing and record attendance, Ega Park continues to grow as a regional landmark.
