Elbe River leaders unite to shape future tourism and cultural projects

Representatives from the Elbe River region recently gathered to reinforce collaboration and plan future tourism projects. The meeting focused on reviewing past work, discussing current challenges, and setting long-term goals for the area. Ellen Kartenbeck, managing director of Elbe River Landscape GmbH, highlighted the need for ongoing dialogue with local leaders.

The session began with an assessment of completed initiatives, including the Elbe Emotions: Images of a River Landscape photo exhibition held at Lüneburg's Regional Adult Education Center. Participants also shared updates on active projects and explored ways to deepen cooperation with the supervisory board.

Open discussions followed, addressing both obstacles and opportunities in regional tourism. Attendees jointly outlined a vision for the coming years, with a focus on transparency and shared decision-making. Two major events were proposed: a Tourism Day in autumn 2026 and a Literature Festival later that same year.

Kartenbeck stressed the value of regular exchanges with mayors and other stakeholders. While the exact number of participating communes remains unclear, the group agreed to maintain direct communication until the next official meeting in January 2027.

The gathering set a clear path for future tourism development along the Elbe. Upcoming projects, such as the Tourism Day and Literature Festival, will build on past successes like the photo exhibition. Stakeholders will continue working together to strengthen regional ties and ensure inclusive planning.
