Euskirchen's Day of Open Heritage Draws 1200 Visitors
Euskirchen's historic sites opened their doors to the public on the recent Day of Open Heritage, attracting around 1200 visitors. The event, organized by the lower monument authority, offered tours, exhibitions, and learning experiences about the city's landmarks. It concluded with a classical concert in the 'Great Hall' of the Casino.
The day began with tours focused on themes of 'War and Peace' and 'Rebirth in Peace. Euskirchen 1945-1961' at the historic cemetery on Frauenberger Str. Visitors also enjoyed panoramic views from the evangelical church tower on Kölner Str. Railway enthusiasts were delighted by the Prussian locomotive shed and 'Zucker-Susi' on Oststr.
Many visitors combined their exploration of the city's heritage with voting in local elections. Refreshments and restoration explanations were provided by the 'Café Paradise' and 'CASINO', with the 'culture and support association CASINO e.V.' offering information about its work.
The next Day of Open Heritage is scheduled for Sunday, September 13, 2026. The lower monument authority seeks a volunteer photographer to accompany and document the 'Tag des offenen Denkmals' event on this date. The event's popularity underscores Euskirchen's rich history and the public's enthusiasm for preserving and exploring it.
