Expanding Visa-Free Entry under Proposed Kazakhstan Legislation

Kazakhstan is set to make travel easier for citizens of 56 countries, as the Central Asian nation proposes a draft resolution to simplify and expand its visa-free regime. The move is part of Kazakhstan's long-term strategy to enhance transportation connectivity and streamline the business environment.

Under the proposed draft, citizens of countries such as the US, UK, Germany, France, Japan, South Korea, Canada, Australia, and UAE will be able to enter Kazakhstan without a visa for up to 30 days per visit, with a maximum of 90 days in a 180-day period. This is a significant step forward in Kazakhstan's diplomatic relations, reflecting its growing global influence.

However, the stay in Kazakhstan without a visa is not unlimited. According to the draft, the stay should not exceed 30 calendar days from the moment of crossing the state border, unless specified for certain countries like Iran, India, and Turkey. The Islamic Republic of Iran and India can stay in Kazakhstan without a visa for up to 14 calendar days and a total of 42 calendar days within each 180-day period. Turkish citizens, on the other hand, can enter and stay in Kazakhstan without a visa for up to 90 days within any 180 days, reflecting close economic and diplomatic ties between the two nations.

The expansion of visa-free access is not a new development for Kazakhstan. As of July 2025, Kazakhstan passport holders can travel visa-free to a total of 79 countries, including Albania, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Brazil, China, Colombia, Georgia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Morocco, Russia, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam, among others.

This move is expected to boost tourism and investment in Kazakhstan. With more than 7.5 million foreigners visiting Kazakhstan over the first half of 2025, the potential for growth is significant. The visa-free regime is expected to make Kazakhstan more attractive to tourists and investors, further strengthening its position as a regional hub.

In summary, Kazakhstan’s visa-free access includes 79 countries for its citizens, while Kazakhstan itself is expanding visa-free entry for 56 foreign countries under new draft rules effective mid-2025, with structured durations depending on the country. Travelers should verify specific duration limits and purposes of travel per destination rules.
