Explorer Yuri Skorobogatov to Paddleboard 3,800 km Across Russia’s Far East

A daring new expedition is set to begin in Russia’s Far East this April. Explorer Yuri Skorobogatov will attempt to break his own world record by paddleboarding 3,800 kilometres across some of the region’s most historic rivers. The journey, named Areal Vostoka, will take over 100 days and trace the routes of legendary 19th-century adventurers like Pyotr Beketov, Nikolai Muravyov-Amursky, and Nikolai Przhevalsky. The expedition will pass through Transbaikal Krai, the Amur region, and the Jewish Autonomous Oblast before finishing at the Sea of Okhotsk in Khabarovsk Krai. Though nervous about the scale of the challenge, Skorobogatov remains confident in its success. He plans to document the trip with daily photo and video updates. After completing the journey, he will publish a detailed travel guide for outdoor enthusiasts, with a focus on stand-up paddleboard (SUP) travellers. The expedition is backed by the mining and metallurgical company Areal, which has provided support for the venture. If successful, Skorobogatov’s journey will set a new benchmark for the longest SUP expedition in history. The published guide will offer practical insights for future adventurers exploring Russia’s Far East. The expedition is scheduled to begin in April, with updates expected throughout the 100-day trip.
