Far East Russia Sees Tourism Boom, Primorsky Krai Leads the Way
The Far East regions of Russia have witnessed a surge in tourism, with 1.92 million visitors from May to August 2024. This influx has pushed the regions' share in Russia's total tourist trips to over 5%.
The growth in Far East tourism is attributed to several factors. Infrastructure development, investment projects, and the promotion of unique tourist products have all played a significant role. By the end of the first seven months of 2025, tourist traffic to the Far East increased by 7.3% year-on-year.
Primorsky Krai has emerged as the most popular destination, attracting 82% of Far East visitors in summer 2025. This is a monthly growth of 20-35%. The regions' popularity can be attributed to large investments in hotels, improved transport accessibility, lower prices, and a varied range of offerings. About a third of Primorye tourists come from neighboring regions.
However, there has been a decrease in demand for trips to Sakhalin and Kamchatka this year. In summer 2025, only 10% of Far East visitors went to Sakhalin, and 8% to Kamchatka.
The Far East's tourism sector is thriving, with a significant increase in visitors and a growing share of Russia's total tourist trips. Primorsky Krai's popularity is a testament to the regions' efforts in developing its tourism infrastructure and offerings. Despite a decrease in demand for Sakhalin and Kamchatka, the overall trend in Far East tourism remains positive.
