Cycling across America for Strong Bones!

Join Marybeth Bond, along with her daughter Julieclaire and goddaughter Laura Maxwell, on an epic adventure spanning thousands of miles, all while raising awareness about bone health! The trio, who have christened their journey Bond Girls Bike America, are currently pedaling their way from coast to coast, documenting their experiences via a unique blog.

Leaving San Francisco behind, the ladies set off on their two-wheeled odyssey. They've been traversing vineyards, walnut groves, and strawberry fields, with the intoxicating fragrances enticing them to stop and indulge. Their ride also led them past exotic creatures like ostriches, llamas, and alpacas. As they cycled, they felt like they'd entered a whole new world, vastly different from urban life.

The early leg of the trip took them through northern California, where they discovered charming, small towns they'd never visited before. People waved, honked, and smiled as they passed by. Riding on well-research routes by Adventure Cycling, they discovered quiet backroads leading them through idyllic countrysides. They even got a glimpse of upcoming events, like a quilting festival in Winters, California!

As they journeyed into the Sierra Nevada mountains, they followed historic trails that bore witness to the Gold Rush. In Placerville, a town steeped in history, they encountered the ghosts of gold miners and trappers. Still, they couldn't resist the allure of an old-fashioned candy store on Main Street, where they savored homemade taffy, fudge, and colorful licorice.

Crossing into Nevada, they faced tough terrain, temperature extremes, and long stretches without services. Nevertheless, they were rewarded with breathtaking views and ice cream cone-shaped clouds that kept their spirits high. One evening, they camped near the Rubby Mountains, where local gold miners shared tales of their wealth.

Entering Zion National Park, the ladies pedaled beneath towering red rock cliffs, enjoying the solitude the park offered. They glided through the canyon, basking in the heat of the day and cooling off in the Virgin River come evening. Under the starlit skies, they roasted steak and marveled at the vast expanse of stars above them.

Their journey brought them closer to fellow Americans, making friends with teachers, canyoneers, and musicians along the way. Campgrounds became communities where everyone shared resources and stories. Even Duane, the owner of an RV park in Utah, treated them to elk shoulder and fresh trout, a gesture that renewed their faith in the kindness of strangers.

Their rolling home for the next two months is a 28-foot RV, emblazoned with the logos of Total cereal and the National Osteoporosis Foundation. The duo is riding for a cause, committed to promoting bone health and raising funds for osteoporosis education and research. As a mother, Marybeth is concerned about her daughters, as 85-90% of a woman's bone mass is acquired by age 18. The charity bike tour benefits the National Osteoporosis Foundation, and Total cereal is matching all funds raised, up to $25,000.

Stay tuned as the Bond Girls continue their journey, spreading awareness and strength one pedal stroke at a time!
