Flix partners with Mexico to sell Tren Maya tickets and celebrate culture abroad
Travellers can now book tickets for Mexico's Tren Maya through Flix's platforms. The new partnership between Flix Mexico and the country's tourism ministry, Sectur, was announced on 21 January. It aims to boost access to the scenic rail route while promoting Mexico as a leading travel destination.
Meanwhile, Flix has also unveiled a special bus for its Spain-Portugal route, decorated with designs inspired by Mexican culture. The move coincides with Mexico's role as Guest Country at the 46th FITUR trade fair in Madrid.
The collaboration allows passengers to purchase Tren Maya tickets via Flix's website, mobile app, and physical sales points. The 1,554-kilometre railway crosses the Yucatan Peninsula, linking five states with a fleet of 42 modern trains. Both Tourist and Premier class options are available for booking.
Flix Mexico currently operates five routes in the country, connecting the central region with the North, Gulf, and Bajio areas. These services cover 12 destinations, reinforcing the company's presence in the local transport network.
At the same time, Flix introduced a newly branded bus on its Spain-Portugal route. The vehicle features graphic elements celebrating Mexican heritage, launched to mark Mexico's participation as Guest Country at FITUR. The trade fair, now in its 46th edition, runs in Madrid this week.
Carlos Magaña, general director of Flix Mexico, highlighted the partnership's dual goals. Beyond improving ticket access, the initiative supports sustainable tourism growth in the region. Sectur's involvement underscores the government's push to strengthen Mexico's appeal to international visitors.
The agreement between Sectur and Flix expands booking options for Tren Maya, making travel planning easier for tourists. The branded bus in Europe further raises Mexico's profile during its spotlight at FITUR. Both efforts align with broader plans to develop the country's tourism sector sustainably.
