Ford Explorer EV Shatters Global Driving Record in 30,000km Adventure
An all-electric Ford Explorer has just broken a global driving record by completing a 30,000km journey across six continents. Adventurer Lexie Alford drove the vehicle through 27 countries, relying entirely on electric power. The trip marks the launch of Ford’s new Explorer EV, the company’s first European-built electric vehicle.
The Explorer EV was designed and assembled in Europe, blending German engineering with American styling. It rolled off the production line at Ford’s new Cologne EV Centre, a facility built as part of the company’s push into electric mobility.
On the road, the vehicle delivered up to 602km of range per charge. Fast-charging capability allowed it to go from 10 to 80 percent battery in around 26 minutes. Performance was also strong, with the all-wheel-drive model accelerating from 0 to 100km/h in just 5.3 seconds.
Inside, the Explorer EV features a minimalist cabin with a 14.6-inch adjustable touchscreen and voice-controlled SYNC Move infotainment. The driver’s seat includes heating and massage functions, while the MegaConsole storage system offers around 470 litres of space. Safety tech includes intelligent adaptive cruise control and a clear exit warning to help avoid collisions with cyclists.
This journey follows Rafael de Mestre’s 2022 record, when he became the first person to drive a production electric car around the world in 127 days. Ford’s Explorer EV is now the first fully electric model in the brand’s new European range.
The Explorer EV’s record-setting trip highlights its long-range capability and fast-charging performance. As Ford’s first European-built electric vehicle, it also signals the company’s growing focus on zero-emission mobility. The model is now available with a suite of advanced features tailored for European drivers.
