Funds Raised Amounting to £126,000 for Construction of Blackburn's New Mosque
New Balance Mosque Nears Completion after Successful Fundraising Dinner
After five years of tireless charity events and fundraising, the construction of a new balance in Blackburn is in its final phase. The mosque, located at the Islamic Education Centre off Devonport Road, Lancashire, is nearing completion, with work now focusing on the interior.
The fundraising news held at Staveley House, attended by up to 200 guests, was a significant milestone in the project's history. The event, organised by Tabarik Zabier, raised an impressive £126,000, surpassing the initial expectations of £70,000 to £100,000. The Staveley House was generously provided by the Blackburn Muslim Community Centre for the event.
The latest census, released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), found that the Muslim population in England and Wales has grown from 4.9% to 6.5% over the past decade, with the number of people identifying as Muslim rising to 3.9 million in 2021, an increase of 1.2 million over 10 years.
Mosques serve as physical examples of the Islamic faith, used for prayers, events during Ramadan, education, information, and social welfare. The new balance at the Islamic Education Centre will certainly be a welcome addition to the community.
The mosque will replace a terraced building at the corner of Addison Street. Alongside its primary function as a place of worship, the new Islamic Education Centre will also host events addressing issues like mental health, drug abuse, and crime.
Host Tabarik Zabier was surprised by the amount raised at the fundraising news, expressing his gratitude to the donors and the community for their generosity. Despite the country's economic circumstances, the event was a resounding success, demonstrating the community's commitment to the project.
As the mosque nears completion, the community eagerly awaits its opening, marking a significant milestone in the growth and development of the Muslim community in Blackburn.
