Füssen's Mayor Vows to Preserve Culture Amid Hanfwerke Redevelopment

Füssen's Mayor Maximilian Eichstetter has reaffirmed the city's commitment to preserving its cultural scene, despite plans to redevelop the former Hanfwerke site into a modern urban quarter. The 'Initiative Alte Kantine', advocating for a sustainable and community-oriented future use of the area, has been asked to leave the Alte Kantine by the end of the year by property owner Dieter Glass.

The initiative, which aims to maintain the cultural and social significance of the Hanfwerke area, has been given until December to vacate the premises. However, Mayor Eichstetter has stressed that 'Without culture, there can be no development on the site.' The city and Glass have been working together to transform the site, but Glass has so far refused to commit to including the cultural scene in the development contract.

Eichstetter, however, has made it clear that 'Füssen remains committed to its stance: urban development and culture are inseparable.' The city insists that the area must make room for the cultural scene in the coming years, despite the redevelopment plans.

The future of the 'Initiative Alte Kantine' and the cultural scene in the Hanfwerke area remains uncertain. While the city of Füssen is committed to preserving its cultural heritage, the property owner's stance on including the cultural scene in the development plans is yet to be determined. The initiative has until the end of the year to vacate the Alte Kantine, but the city's mayor has assured that culture will play a significant role in the site's future.
