German pharmacy foils suspicious Ozempic prescription attempt

A pharmacy in Wuppertal recently dealt with a suspicious request for Ozempic, a popular weight-loss injection. The incident began when a pharmacy technician received an unusual phone order from an unknown customer. Though the prescription appeared valid at first glance, small details raised doubts among the staff.

The customer called to request eight doses of Ozempic, presenting a private prescription that seemed correct. However, the pharmacy team noticed inconsistencies—the prescribing clinic and the patient's address were in different locations. This discrepancy made them cautious, as forged prescriptions for such medications have been reported in German pharmacies.

When the technician explained that the prescription required verification, the customer grew frustrated. The exchange turned tense before the team agreed to proceed with the order, planning to confirm its authenticity with the doctor the following Monday. Later, they managed to contact the prescribing doctor directly and confirmed the prescription was genuine. After receiving the injections, the customer collected additional prescriptions. Before leaving, they made a light-hearted remark about returning to the pharmacy more often.

The pharmacy team followed protocol by verifying the prescription, ensuring the medication was dispensed safely. While no official figures on forged prescriptions for drugs like Ozempic in Germany exist, pharmacies remain vigilant. Staff continue to scrutinise orders for weight-loss treatments more closely to prevent potential fraud.
