Kassel’s municipal campsite along the Fulda River is welcoming winter visitors for the first time this season. Campers booking a stay will enjoy discounted rates and two free mulled wine vouchers for the city’s Fairy-Tale Christmas Market.

Other sites across the region are also preparing for cold-weather guests, with heated facilities and seasonal activities on offer.

The campsite in Kassel is not the only one operating through the winter months. Camping Bergblick has opened bookings for the 2025/2026 season, featuring heated sanitary blocks but no specific advice on preparing for December stays. Nearby, Camping Wisperpark in Bad Schwalbach remains open year-round, with communal meals planned for Christmas and New Year’s.

For those seeking adventure, Terrassencamping Schlierbach in the Odenwald stays accessible in winter. The site attracts climbers and offers bubble tents with clear views of the night sky and surrounding nature.

The ADAC has shared practical tips for winter camping. They recommend packing winter-grade gas and an electric heater for the gas regulator to maintain warmth in freezing temperatures. A frost-resistant power cable and a small awning are also advised to reduce condensation inside vehicles. The awning provides extra space for drying clothes and storing sports equipment.

Kassel’s campers will receive a free MeineCardPlus visitor pass with their booking. This pass includes access to over 160 local activities, as well as free public transport in the region.

Winter camping options in the area now include heated amenities, seasonal perks, and outdoor activities. Kassel’s new initiative, combined with existing sites, gives visitors more ways to enjoy the colder months. The free passes and festive incentives aim to make stays more appealing during the holiday season.
