Hainan emerges as a cheaper tropical rival to Phuket for travelers

A Tropical Getaway on China's Hainan Island Could Cost Far Less Than a Similar Trip to Thailand, according to a report by the Tourdom travel portal (18+).

For example, a nine-night stay in Phuket with a departure on April 29 starts at 196,000 rubles for two people—but that price only covers modest two- or three-star hotels. A stay in a four-star property begins at 204,000 rubles.

Meanwhile, a 10-day vacation on Hainan can cost nearly half as much, even with discounts applying to high-end hotels and flight times remaining the same.

The portal offers a comparison: a package at a four-star Hainan hotel, also departing on April 29, runs about 122,000 rubles for two—just 61,000 rubles per person when booked together. A five-star stay over the same period comes to 129,000 rubles.

What to Do on Hainan?

  • Swim in the warm South China Sea and soak up the sun on the beaches of Yalong Bay or Dadonghai.
  • Visit "Deer Turns Its Head" Park and take in the panoramic views of the bay from the observation deck.
  • Head to Wuzhizhou Island for snorkeling and diving in crystal-clear waters.
  • Stroll through the tropical forests of Yanoda Park or Jianfengling Mountain.
  • Marvel at the Nanshan Buddhist Cultural Zone, home to a 108-meter-tall statue of Guanyin.
  • Relax with spa treatments featuring local herbs and thermal springs.
  • Sample tropical fruits like mango, dragon fruit, and rambutan—fresh from the farm.
