Hamburg Welcomes 1.4 Million Cruise Guests in a Year - Hamburg's Cruise Boom Brings Record Visits and Rising Passenger Spending

Hamburg's cruise industry is growing steadily, with passenger numbers and ship visits on the rise. Last year, the city welcomed 1.4 million cruise travellers, marking a notable increase from 2021. This year, even more vessels are expected to dock at the port.

In 2022, Hamburg saw 295 ship calls, including 43 river cruise vessels and three maiden voyages. A total of 46 different cruise ships stopped at the port. The following year, projections show 331 ship visits, with 47 river cruise calls and eight maiden voyages.

More passengers are also choosing to extend their stay. In 2023, 38% of cruise travellers spent at least one night in Hamburg before or after their trip—double the rate recorded in 2016. While dining, shopping, and cultural activities remain popular, over 70% of visitors now take part in these experiences.

Spending has also climbed, with passengers starting or ending their journey in Hamburg averaging €133.59 per visit.

The city's cruise sector continues to expand, with higher visitor numbers and longer stays. As ship calls and passenger spending grow, Hamburg's position as a key cruise destination appears increasingly strong.
