Hammamet beats St Tropez with sun, safety and 65% cheaper holidays

Holidaymakers looking for sun and affordability are turning to Hammamet in Tunisia instead of the pricey French Riviera. A week in this North African resort now costs just £516 per person, a fraction of what St Tropez demands. Enhanced security and budget-friendly packages have made it an appealing alternative. St Tropez remains a glamorous but expensive destination. Beach clubs charge between £25 and £40 per lounger, with peak-season spots reaching £130. Mid-range dinners cost £50-£80 per person, while a glass of rosé can set visitors back up to £20. Flight and hotel packages in May typically range from £400 to £600 per person.

Hammamet offers a stark contrast in value. First Choice provides seven nights all-inclusive at the four-star Sentido Marillia Resort & Spa for £516. This price covers food, drinks, and beach access, saving travellers around 65% compared to St Tropez. The Yasmine district adds to the appeal with its palm-lined promenade, waterfront cafés, and Tunisia's largest marina. A wide beach for water sports and the Carthage Land theme park provide extra entertainment.

Safety has also improved significantly since 2015. Hammamet now has a Safety Index of 78, with low risk in tourist zones due to increased patrols and hotel security. While the FCDO advises against travel to western and southern Tunisia, coastal resorts like Hammamet remain popular. Tunisia was even recommended as a safe Easter break option amid ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. Travellers can enjoy sun, sea, and savings in Hammamet for a fraction of St Tropez's prices. The resort's improved security and all-inclusive deals make it a practical choice for budget-conscious holidaymakers. With flights, meals, and beach access included, the cost difference is clear.
