Heitersheim advances fire station project with under-budget water main upgrade
Heitersheim is moving forward with the next phase of its new fire station and municipal yard project. The town council will award a contract for key infrastructure work at an upcoming meeting. Four firms competed for the bid, with a Freiburg-based company offering the most cost-effective solution.
The project focuses on connecting the new buildings and courtyard areas to existing utility networks. A major part of the work involves completing a water main loop along Jahnstraße. This will link the school complex with Unterer Gallenweilerweg, improving both drinking water hygiene and supply reliability in the area.
The initial cost estimate for the civil engineering works was around €375,000. However, the lowest bid came in at €277,776.80 gross, significantly under budget. Funding has already been secured through Heitersheim's 2026 budget and the municipal utility's financial plan. The town council will formally award the contract on March 17, 2026. No prior records exist of similar water main projects along Jahnstraße, making this a new development for the area.
The chosen firm will begin work shortly after the contract is signed. The completed water main loop will ensure better water quality and a more dependable supply for residents. This marks another step in Heitersheim's ongoing infrastructure improvements.
