In an unusual incident at Neuschwanstein Castle, a woman found herself under investigation for animal cruelty after locking her dog in a locker intended for valuables. The medium-sized dog, roughly 60 cm tall at the shoulder, was discovered by observant tourists who alerted security staff.

Despite warnings about the prevailing temperatures in the Allgäu on Saturday, the woman proceeded with her plan to tour the castle while her dog was locked up. The dog was unharmed but was found in a hot, confined space, prompting immediate action from the security personnel to rescue the animal.

The police were then called, and they took the dog to the station for safety and observation. The incident has been reported and a criminal investigation has been initiated against the dog owner, with the offense falling under the Animal Welfare Act.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the strict enforcement of pet care and animal welfare regulations at Neuschwanstein Castle. Pets must not be locked in enclosed spaces such as lockers, especially in unsafe conditions like hot weather. Visitors are expected to ensure the safety and well-being of their pets while on the premises.

While specific official pet care guidelines from the castle are not explicitly listed, the incident and police response demonstrate that animal welfare is taken seriously. Any form of neglect or abuse, including confinement in lockers, is prohibited.

This incident continues to be under investigation, and the identity of the dog owner remains undisclosed. It is a cautionary tale for all visitors with pets, emphasising the importance of prioritising their animals' safety and comfort, not leaving them unattended in confined or hazardous places, and complying with German animal welfare laws to avoid legal consequences during their visit to Neuschwanstein Castle.
