Millions of Crocuses Turn Husum into a Sea of Flowers - Husum's Castle Park Blooms With Millions of Purple Crocuses for Spring Festival
Husum is celebrating the arrival of spring with a vibrant display of colour. Around four million crocuses, mostly purple, now cover the town's Castle Park. A two-day festival has begun, featuring markets, a shopping event, and the crowning of the Crocus Blossom Majesty.
The crocuses blooming across Husum's Castle Park were not originally from the area. Their exact arrival remains unclear, but theories suggest monks brought them in the 15th century. Another possibility points to Duchess Marie Elisabeth, who may have introduced them in the mid-17th century for saffron cultivation.
The festival offers free guided walks with historical themes. One tour focuses on the castle and gardens, led by a costumed guide. Another explores the development of Husum's newer districts. Visitors can also browse an artisan market and enjoy a special shopping event. The highlight comes with the coronation of the Crocus Blossom Majesty, a traditional part of the spring celebrations.
The festival runs for two days, blending history, shopping, and seasonal traditions. While the crocuses' past in Husum stays partly unknown, their bright display now marks the start of spring. The event draws locals and tourists to enjoy the park's floral spectacle.
