Iberfar Expands Medicinal Cannabis Production in Portugal's Alentejo Region
Iberfar Group is expanding its medicinal cannabis production in Portugal's Alentejo region. The company aims to increase output to meet growing demand and export medicinal cannabis to Europe. The expansion includes advanced security measures and a significant increase in production area.
Iberfar's production area will grow to eight hectares, potentially yielding 100 tons of medicinal cannabis. This expansion is supported by ideal growing conditions in the Alentejo region, which boasts plenty of sun, low humidity, and suitable soils. The company currently produces five cannabis-based medicines for pain treatment on its existing 5.5 hectares.
Security measures for the expanded area include electric fences, video surveillance cameras, and infrared technology. Iberfar focuses on ensuring the entire value chain from seed to patient, maintaining total therapeutic and environmental safety. The company has already received approval from the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) in Germany for its cannabis medicines. Additionally, three new cannabis-based medicines are in the approval process.
With the expansion, Iberfar Group aims to strengthen its position in the European market for medicinal cannabis. The company's commitment to safety and quality, along with the favorable growing conditions in Alentejo, positions it well to meet the increasing demand for cannabis-based medicines.
