Increased tourist numbers and associated spending among the 9.8 million international visitors in Spain during June, however, with shorter holiday durations reported for many.

Spain welcomed a total of 44.5 million foreign tourists in the first half of 2025, marking a 4.7% increase from the previous year. This growth was reflected in the spending patterns of tourists, with the average daily spending by a foreign tourist in Spain rising by 6.5% to €209 per day.

In June 2025, Spain saw a slight decline in the number of visitors compared to the same month in 2024, with a 2.2% drop to approximately 654,500 visitors. However, the total number of nights stayed increased by 5.8%, and the average length of stay rose by 8.2%, indicating longer visits. Despite fewer visitors, expenditure decreased by 5.5% to €646.5 million compared to June 2024, with the average spend per visitor falling by 3.4%.

Looking at the broader summer period from June to September 2025, Spain expects to receive around 42 million international tourists, a 3.2% increase over the previous summer. These tourists are anticipated to spend an estimated €58 billion, which is 3.8% higher than in 2024.

British, German, and French travelers collectively account for 44.7% of the total foreign tourist spending in Spain. The United Kingdom was the country with the most tourists visiting Spain in June 2025, with over 2.1 million tourists. German tourists followed closely, with 1.2 million tourists, a 7.8% increase from the previous year. French travelers were the third most present, with 1 million tourists, a 0.5% decrease from the previous year.

The average spending by a foreign tourist in Spain is €1,376, a 3.5% increase from the previous year. British tourists spend an average of €189 per day, a 6.3% decrease from the previous year, while German tourists spend an average of €181 per day, a 1.4% decrease. French tourists spend an average of €155 per person per day, a 4.8% decrease, and spend an average of 6 days in Spain, a 4.8% decrease.

Despite the slight decrease in June, the U.S. remains a key high-value market for Spain. In recent years, American tourist numbers have doubled from 2016 to about 4.2 million visitors in 2024, with average spending significantly higher than European tourists—around €2,100 per trip per person in 2024. However, early 2025 saw some decline in U.S. bookings attributable to economic unrest, a stronger euro versus the dollar, and anti-tourism protests, which dampened American travel enthusiasm.

Regionally in Spain, the six main autonomous communities—Andalusia, Madrid, Catalonia, Valencia, the Balearic Islands, and the Canary Islands—are expected to see growth of 1% to 3%, with even stronger increases (8% to 13%) in less traditional tourist destinations, supporting tourism diversification and seasonality reduction.

In summary, while June 2025 saw a slight dip in foreign tourism in Spain, the overall summer season is projected to grow moderately in both tourists and spending. The U.S. is a key high-value market, although its growth momentum slowed in 2025 due to economic and currency factors. The Spanish tourism model continues to emphasize quality and geographic diversification within the country.

In light of the summer forecast, tourists planning their personal-finance budgets for traveling to Spain might consider a 3.2% increase in the total number of international tourists, with an estimated €58 billion in travel expenditure. For those interested in diversifying their lifestyle choices during their travel, less traditional tourist destinations in Spain are expected to see growth of up to 13%. Additionally, motor enthusiasts might take note that the average daily spending by a foreign tourist in Spain is €209, accommodating a wide range of leisure and transportation costs.
