Information Essential Before Reserving Thompson Playa del Carmen Main House
In the vibrant heart of Playa del Carmen, the Thompson Playa del Carmen Main House, a popular adults-only boutique hotel, has undergone a transformation. As of December 2024, the property, along with its sister property, the Thompson Playa del Carmen Beach House, were rebranded as Hyatt Centric Playa del Carmen.
This change is part of Hyatt's broader strategy to incorporate Thompson Hotels into its portfolio under the Hyatt Centric brand umbrella. The properties ceased operating under the Thompson brand and were officially relaunched or converted to Hyatt Centric Playa del Carmen, aligning with Hyatt Centric's focus on lifestyle, local culture, and experience-oriented hospitality.
The Thompson Playa del Carmen Main House, now a Category 4 hotel within the Hyatt portfolio, retains its modern, spacious, and comfortable rooms. My stay in a room featured a clean and functional bathroom with a big walk-in shower, a balcony with a daybed and a small table with chairs, and a rooftop pool with a party vibe. The hotel's front entrance is on a pedestrian-only street, making it easily accessible.
Despite its central location, the hotel is not on the beach, but it's just a few blocks away. Cash prices for a night's stay start around $119 per night for a non-refundable rate or $157 for a refundable member rate.
Select American Express cardholders can enjoy extra benefits like a room upgrade and a $100 property credit on bookings of 2 nights or more at The Hotel Collection properties, including the newly rebranded Hyatt Centric Playa del Carmen.
The hotel offers three bars and restaurants on its rooftop: Cinco, Alessia Rooftop Dayclub, and UMI Rooftop + Tokyo Kitchen. I had a delicious lunch at the rooftop restaurant, and breakfast was included in my tour package with G Adventures thanks to my Hyatt Globalist status. I also took advantage of using the World of Hyatt card to pay for my lunch and earn 4x points.
However, it's important to note that the Thompson Playa del Carmen Main House is located in a noisy area, with some rooms, including the one I stayed in, being extremely noisy due to nearby nightclubs and street performers. It's recommended to request a quiet room if planning to stay there.
This transition reflects Hyatt’s portfolio evolution, with Thompson Hotels being repositioned within Hyatt’s lifestyle brand hierarchy to better capture diverse traveler segments.
