Jiménez Twins Redefine Miami Art with El Monte at PAMM in 2025
Identical twin artists Erick and Elliot Jiménez are making waves in Miami's art scene. Their first major solo museum exhibition, El Monte (The Wilderness), opens at the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) in 2025. The show blends their commercial photography style with deep roots in Lucumí spirituality and Cuban heritage.
Born in Florida to Cuban-American parents, the Jiménez twins grew up surrounded by Afro-Cuban traditions. Their mother and father fled communist Cuba in the 1980s, and their grandmother raised them in Miami. This upbringing shaped their artistic vision, which explores themes of identity, spirituality, and family history.
The twins began taking photographs as teenagers and have worked together for over 20 years. They gained wider recognition in 2023 after shooting Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny for TIME's first all-Spanish cover. Their work often merges fashion photography with mystical elements, reflecting their Yoruba and Lucumí influences.
El Monte (The Wilderness) features a mix of photographs, chapel-like installations, and 17th-century furniture. A centrepiece of the exhibition is a large womb-shaped ceiba tree, symbolising life and ancestral connections. The twins describe themselves as spiritual rather than religious, and their art reflects this personal journey.
Now based between Miami and New York, the brothers share a home in both cities. Their close bond as identical twins informs their collaborative process, making their work deeply personal and visually striking.
The exhibition marks a significant milestone for the Jiménez twins, cementing their place among Miami's most influential artists. El Monte (The Wilderness) will run at PAMM, offering visitors a glimpse into their unique fusion of culture, history, and contemporary art. The show highlights their evolution from teenage photographers to internationally recognised creators.
