Kazakh Cultural Hub Qazaq Roots Opens in Ghent with Crafts and Language Classes

A second Kazakh cultural center has opened in Belgium, following the first at the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Brussels, reports our website, citing 24KZ.

The new space, named Qazaq Roots ("Kazakh Roots"), will offer classes in Ghent on traditional nomadic crafts for both children and adults. Those interested will also be able to enroll in Kazakh language courses.

Located in northern Belgium in the Flemish region—where Dutch is the primary language—the city is home to Kazakhs who relocated for work or family reasons. The cultural center will help them preserve their heritage.

Guests at the opening ceremony were introduced to Kazakhstan's rich cultural traditions. After the festivities, some Belgians even attended a trial Kazakh language lesson.

"We are delighted that the Kazakh cultural center has opened here in Ghent," said Michiel Dauwaert, director of the city's Welfare Center. "This is a wonderful opportunity to explore your vibrant culture more deeply. I also plan to study the Kazakh language here."
