Kazakh Women Artists' Legacy Shines in 'Bread and Roses' Berlin Exhibition

An exhibition titled 'Bread and Roses' is currently on display at Berlin’s Kunstquartier Bethanien. It features paintings by four generations of Kazakh women artists, spanning from 1945 to the present day. The showcase, part of the 'Focus Kazakhstan' art project, aims to connect cultures and promote Kazakh art worldwide.

The exhibition is divided into two sections. The first explores the history of Kazakhstan, reflecting the personal stories, social realities, and lived experiences of the artists. The second section offers a unique perspective on Berlin, captured through the eyes of Kazakh artists who participated in a two-month residency. Despite search efforts, the names of the seven Kazakh female artists involved in this residency remain unknown.

The exhibition addresses pressing themes such as war, refugees, and migration. These themes are explored through works created during the residency. The exhibition is set to run until October 20, 2018, providing ample time for visitors to appreciate the artistic expressions of these Kazakh women.

The 'Bread and Roses' exhibition, opened on September 25 by Bolat Nussupov, Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Germany, is a testament to the cultural bridging and global promotion goals of the 'Focus Kazakhstan' art project. It offers a rare opportunity to engage with the rich artistic heritage of Kazakh women across generations.
