Kazakhstan Launches Comprehensive Water Management Strategy

Kazakhstan has launched a comprehensive water management strategy, prioritizing fair use, conservation, and skilled workforce development. The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation has been established to oversee these reforms.

The government is investing in water management, with over 30,000 employees ensuring water supply to urban and rural areas, as well as industries. To promote water conservation, a 'Save Water - Save the Future!' project has engaged over 2 million students.

To encourage economical water use, a tariff has been introduced, and the government supports water-saving technologies. The Kazakh National University of Water Management and Irrigation, established last year with 500 students, is training specialists to tackle the sector's skill shortage.

Water resources are considered a national security issue in Kazakhstan. The government adheres to mutual obligations in water security and advocates for rational, fair, and equal use of resources. To support this, water management workers' wages have increased by 25% in 2024, with further increases planned.

Kazakhstan's water management strategy focuses on conservation, fair use, and skilled workforce development. With the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation overseeing these reforms, the country aims to ensure water security while promoting responsible usage.
