Kazakhstan Targets Wealthy Tourists to Boost Economy

Kazakhstan is boosting its tourism sector, aiming to draw wealthier visitors and increase its economic impact. Despite a low current contribution to GDP, tourism plays a crucial social role for locals. However, infrastructure limitations hinder widespread foreign tourism.

The country is prioritizing targeted campaigns to attract high-spending travelers. Popular summer resorts, currently serving mainly domestic tourists, will need to meet higher expectations from foreign visitors. Kazakh Tourism is developing market-specific campaigns for countries like China, India, and Europe, with a particular focus on Germany.

Infrastructure improvements are vital. Many regions lack roadside services, foreign-language guides, and sufficient three-star and four-star hotels. Direct flights to major Chinese cities are also a key focus. In 2023, Kazakhstan's tourism exports reached $2.6 billion, demonstrating the sector's potential.

Kazakhstan is committed to strengthening its international marketing efforts to attract more foreign tourists. By addressing infrastructure gaps and targeting high-spending markets, the country aims to increase tourism's contribution to its economy and provide enhanced recreation opportunities for its residents.
