Kazakhstan’s High-Altitude Mural Unites Nomadic Art with UN’s Global Vision
A monumental mural, combining Kazakh nomadic symbolism and the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, has been unveiled at Shymbulak Mountain Resort in Almaty. The 36 by 6 meter artwork, created by Adil Aubekerov, marks the 80th anniversary of the United Nations and stands as the world's first and largest high-altitude mural dedicated to the organization.
The mural, situated at an altitude of 3,200 meters, was inaugurated on November 7. Aubekerov's artistic language blends traditional visual systems with modern elements, creating a visual dialogue where humanity and nature coexist in harmony. The artwork is part of the official UN anniversary program and was created at the initiative of Living Atmosphere, with support from Bank CenterCredit, in partnership with Shymbulak and the UN Office in Kazakhstan.
Nurlan Seitkazin, managing director of Shymbulak Development, expressed the resort's vision to attract not only athletes but also the creative community and social scene. Aubekerov described his work as a bridge between nomadic symbolism and contemporary expression, carrying memories and telling a story about community values upheld by the UN. Laura Adamova, founder of Living Atmosphere, reflected on her company's role in supporting art as a natural part of caring for one's home and passing it down to future generations. Vlastimil Samek, representative of the UN Department of Global Communications, highlighted the mural's community-driven nature and its call to build a world where innovation serves people, nature is protected, and no one is left behind.
The mural, a striking blend of cultural heritage and global ideals, serves as a testament to the UN's enduring influence and Kazakhstan's commitment to preserving its rich artistic legacy. It stands as a symbol of unity, innovation, and sustainability, inviting visitors to reflect on the UN's mission and their own role in shaping a better future.
