Kazakhstan’s Mangystau Region Deepens Strategic Ties with German Investors

Mangystau, a strategically vital region in Kazakhstan, is strengthening ties with Germany. Recent meetings between officials and over 20 German-affiliated companies operating in the region have boosted economic, scientific, and environmental cooperation.

In the first eight months of this year, trade between Mangystau and Germany totalled $12.4 million. Mangystau primarily exports raw materials and construction materials, while Germany supplies machinery, equipment, and advanced technologies. This trade dynamic reflects the region's strategic importance, serving as a logistics hub for the Trans-Caspian Route.

The akim of Mangystau region, Nurdaulet Kilybai, recently met with Germany's Consul General in Almaty, Matthias Kiesler. The meeting focused on deepening economic, technological, and cultural cooperation. Kilybai presented development projects, including port modernization, petrochemical industry expansion, and sustainable tourism promotion. Both sides agreed to intensify contacts and continue discussions at the working level. This meeting follows a July 2022 meeting in Berlin between Kilybai and Germany's Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, Robert Habeck.

Germany's commitment to strengthening partnerships with Mangystau is evident in the recent meetings and the presence of over 20 German-affiliated companies in the region. As Mangystau continues to develop its infrastructure and industries, Germany's support in technology and machinery can play a significant role in the region's growth.
