Klaistow's Asparagus Season Kicks Off With Creative Dishes and Free Entry
The asparagus season in Klaistow is officially underway, with the harvest now in full swing. The Asparagus and Adventure Farm has opened its doors daily, offering free entry, parking, and a wide range of asparagus-based dishes. From traditional recipes to unusual treats, the farm celebrates the region's beloved vegetable in creative ways. The official launch took place on April 12, marked by the appearance of the Beelitz Asparagus Queen and a host of family-friendly activities. Visitors can enjoy the farm's restaurant, where an asparagus buffet runs from April 3 to June 22 on Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays, and select holidays. The menu features 15 to 20 different dishes, from fresh white and green asparagus to soups, salads, and even asparagus quiche.
Hand-picked daily, the asparagus is turned into everything from classic au gratin to crispy breaded bites. More adventurous offerings include asparagus beer, ice cream, and bratwurst. Future plans may introduce vegan alternatives, fermented products, and seasonal specialties like asparagus-infused spirits during the 2026 harvest. For Ernst-August Winkelmann, asparagus is more than a seasonal treat—it's a daily ritual. He eats it every day during the harvest, calling it 'an incredible product' that brings both pleasure and health. His father reportedly consumed at least 350 grams daily and lived to 91. To celebrate the season, Berlin Local News is giving away five €30 vouchers for the farm. Entries close on April 12, 2026.
The farm remains open every day with no admission fee, making it easy for visitors to explore its offerings. With hand-picked asparagus at its core, the season promises fresh flavours and new culinary experiments. The event runs until June 22, giving plenty of time to sample everything from savoury dishes to sweet asparagus ice cream.
