Baden-Württemberg's Minister President Winfried Kretschmann has faced criticism from the Climate Council for not prioritising climate protection. Kretschmann, however, has defended his record, pointing to advancements in key sectors. Meanwhile, he acknowledges the transport sector as a significant hurdle in achieving climate goals, with the rollout of electromobility being crucial.

The Climate Council recently issued a poor report card for Baden-Württemberg's government, stating that it had not lived up to its claim of making the state an international benchmark for climate protection. The council expressed disappointment that Kretschmann had not made climate protection a top priority.

Kretschmann, however, rejected this criticism, praising his climate policy. He highlighted breakthroughs in three of the five important sectors. Despite this, he acknowledged that the transport sector remains a challenge. He emphasised the need for a swift rollout of electromobility to meet climate goals.

Kretschmann also acknowledged that some regions and countries face significant gaps in charging infrastructure. These include areas in Nordskandinavien, certain regions like Zentraldeutschland, das spanische Binnenland, and Südpolen. Countries like Irland and Rumänien also lag behind in public charging points, with some large retail chains having more.
