Lake Garda has become the most popular winter camping spot for German travellers. Between November and February, nearly 47,200 searches were recorded for the Italian destination. Its mild climate and lower prices make it a top choice for those escaping colder weather.

Winter camping at Lake Garda costs far less than in peak season. Pitches start at just €15 per night, with adult rates as low as €8 per day in December and January. The quieter months also mean fewer crowds and a more peaceful experience.

Many Germans prefer lakeside or Mediterranean spots to avoid harsh winters at home. BeyondCamping highlights other favoured destinations, including Bavaria’s Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where the Zugspitze offers winter sports. The Allgäu and Ammergau Alps, Baden-Württemberg’s Feldberg ski area, and the Bodensee region also attract campers.

Sardinia, Lake Constance, Corsica, and Rügen rank among other top winter camping locations. These areas provide a mix of nature, activities, and well-developed facilities. Lake Garda, however, remains the most searched-for due to its easy access and established camping infrastructure.

Winter camping provides a budget-friendly way to enjoy nature without summer crowds. Lake Garda’s affordability, mild weather, and strong demand confirm its status as Germany’s favourite off-season destination. Other regions also benefit from increased interest in colder months.
