Leuven has been named one of Europe's top travel destinations, finishing fifth in the European Best Destinations ranking. The Belgian city received over 48,000 votes from travellers across 77 countries. It also claimed first place in the separate Best Open-Minded Destinations in Europe category.

While exact visitor numbers remain unclear, tourism data suggests around 200,000–300,000 overnight stays annually, with international guests making up an estimated 40–60%.
